A Day Trip to Shelburne
While staying at Cape Sable Cottages, be sure to take advantage of several day trip opportunities. The town of Shelburne is approximately 30 minutes away and proves to be a popular spot with our guests. This Loyalist town features a lovely waterfront walk that also is home to several interesting museums- the Dory Shop (where the old fashion dory boats are made), the Barrel Factory (self explanatory) and the Ross Thompson House (an eighteen century store and home). Be sure to make the time to visit each site, as well as the Shelburne County Museum, which you will no doubt find of great interest- here there are many and diverse artifacts from early peoples- wonderful paintings and household effects, as well as a vast amount of local history and lore.
Aside from the museums, this downtown area along the waterfront was also the site of the filming of " 'A' The Scarlet Letter". Many of the buildings still bare the movie set renovations.
Shelburne is a great town to visit if you are hungry... several small, friendly restaurants will beckon you in off the streets with their tantilizing aromas of freshly cooked goodies and hearty meals. Charlotte Lane Cafe... is a must stop for those who are looking for a fine food experience.
Shopping is limited in Shelburne but there are several nice boutique stores and in the summer craftsmen are to be found with their wears.
Close by, is the provincial park "The Islands". The Islands is both a picnic and camping park and has a nice waterfront and lovely green parklike areas. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy your day.
