CODE OF ETHICS

In order to protect the Pubnico Community Access Center and our individual users, we, the Board of Directors, require that each user read and agree to the following.

Acceptable Usage

With access to the global computer network comes the possibility of finding material that may be considered to be offensive and/or inappropriate. Your child may find material on the Internet that you may find objectionable. We cannot guarantee that your child will not gain access to objectionable material. The use of the Internet is not a right but a privilege and inappropriate use of the Internet will result in a cancellation of that privilege.

Network Etiquette

1. Be polite.
2. Do not bring food or drinks to workstation area.
3. Keep noise levels to a minimum.
4. Do not use vulgar, obscene, profane, threatening or disrespectful language.
5. Do not harass another person. Harassment is persistently acting in a manner that distresses or annoys another person.
6. You are advised, for your protection, not to meet with someone you met online.
7. Do not reveal your own or someone else's address or telephone number.
8. Electronic mail is not guaranteed to be private. People who operate the system do have access to all.
9. Do not disrupt the network or the data of other users.
10. No vandalism. Vandalism is defined as any attempt to harm or destroy data, and/or equipment. This includes the creation of, or the uploading of, computer viruses onto the Internet or host site.
11. Transmission and/or viewing of obscene materials is prohibited. Sending or receiving offensive messages or pictures from any source will result in immediate action.
12. You are advised not to communicate any credit card number, bank account number, or any other financial information. If doing so it is at own risk.

Booking & Usage Policies

• Everyone using Pubnico CAP computers for the first time must sign a Public Access Internet Station User Release and indemnity form.
• The Center will accept bookings for computer time no more than 1 week in advance. Patrons are encouraged to phone the Centers to check availability of resources before visiting. While every effort to maintain a regular schedule will be made, the Center will be unavailable from time to time. Notices of closure will be posted at the Center.
• Bookings will be accepted for 1-hour sessions. If no one is waiting to use the computer at the end of a booked session, one additional session may be granted.
• Bookings will start on the hour and if the patron does not show up after the first 10 minutes he or she will lose the booking.
• Users shall respect all copyright law.
• Users are responsible for creating their own back-up copy of any information they want saved. Diskettes are available for sale at the Center and only those purchased at the Center may be used.
• If there are no bookings, computer time will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, maximum times as previously stated.
• In the event of unforeseen equipment problems, staff will make every reasonable effort to notify patrons having advanced bookings.
• Training sessions must be booked in advance, as they are offered.

Privileges

All terms and conditions as stated in this document are applicable to all users of the network. The use of this system is a privilege which, upon just cause, may be revoked without refund. Violators will be given a warning, then will be asked to leave and suspended. The Pubnico Community Access Center will deem what is appropriate use and our decisions are final.

Public Access Internet Station

User Release and Indemnity Agreement

The user must release and hold harmless the Pubnico Community Access Center and its officers and employees from any claims of any kind, in any way relating to users access to the Internet. The Release and Indemnity are outlined below.

I understand that access to the Internet is designed for information and learning purposes. I understand and will abide by the conditions, rules and policies in the Code of Ethics and Booking & Usage Policies. I, and anyone who can claim in my name, release the Pubnico Community Access Center from any responsibility for any damage or loss to me relating to using the Pubnico Access Site (including that caused by the Pubnico CAP negligence). If another person by reason of my use of the Public Access Site claims against the Pubnico Community Access Center, I will save the Pubnico CAP harmless. I understand that my access privileges may be revoked or suspended at any time if I violate any of the conditions, rules and policies in this Agreement.

The parent or guardian must sign this agreement.

As the parent or guardian of this user, I have read and understand this Internet Code of Ethics and Booking & Usage Policies with all its conditions, rules and policies. I release the Pubnico CAP from any responsibility for any damage or loss relating to the users use of the Public Access Site (including that caused by the Pubnico CAP negligence) and if the Pubnico CAP is claimed against by another person by reason of the users use of the Public Access Site, I will save the Pubnico CAP harmless. I accept full responsibility for supervision of my childs to use the site. I certify that the information completed in this form is correct.
