The Shubenacadie Page

Shubenacadie is an inland village that is on a river. It is noted for it's tidal bores that come in from the top end of the Bay of Funday, where the tides reach over 50 feet in height.

Waiting for the tidal bore, passengers and an eagle

While waiting for the tidal bore, at least three boats and their passengers go up and down the river near a park. Prior to getting in the boats a young lady from the States saw my camera, and asked if I would take some pictures for her. I knew that I could not stay long enough and so could not do it. As I was leaving I went into the park store to ask the lady there if she would give her my address and I would send her the pictures that I took. She was away and so has never seen these shots.

The eagle was flying down the opposite side of the river to a bend where it landed on the shore near it's mate.

Arrival ------- Carried up river------- Rapids

On this day the tidal bore was about two feet high. It is sometimes over six feet. As it hits the boats it starts to carry them, with their thrill seekers, up river.

The boats ride along with the growing waves. It is still calm in front but starting to build up in the back.

As the tide continues to rush in the river forms quite strong rapids and the passengers were getting quite wet at times. The young lady who wanted the pictures is sitting just above the word 'Tidal' on the boat, and waving her hand. I think she saw me snapping.
