Blue Rocks Blue Rocks
The Blue Rocks Page

Blue Rocks is a small village about six minutes from Lunenburg. There are boats here that will take passengers out to see the whales, as is done in many other sections of Nova Scotia, especially along the Bay of Fundy.

I am an amateur photo bug. The picture below won me the Grand Prize in 1997, from a contest put on by our local paper, the Yarmouth Vanguard, and South West Photo Shop. This shack, on a rock in a bay, shows up a few times in Dolores Claiborne.

Lobster Area-----Whale Watching-----Green Boat

At the end of the small road through Blue Rocks is a little protected area where small boats tie up. Fishing shacks and lobster traps are stationed here. This is the area seen from the home of Dolores Claiborne.

Almost low tide. This is the wharf where passengers go to the boats that take them out to watch the whales, seals and other marine life. This is a very exciting trip for young and old.

At high tide there is not too much of the dock left above the water. Small boats can be almost as picturesque as the larger fishing boats. Shots can be taken in this small area on every visit and they are always unique, even though the same boats may appear most often.

Almost High Tide-----Almost Low Tide-----Exit to Bay

The picture on the left shows a number of the small boats at almost high tide. The center picture shows the same area when the tide is just about out. The shot to the right shows the area where the boats exit to enter a bay where the fishing boats are anchored. This leads to the La Havre river and then to the ocean.
